Eligibility
Subject to state limitations, most employee, religious, charitable, educational, recreational or other similar groups are eligible for coverage under this program.
Who is Covered?
All members of the group who are on the trip are covered. One policy covers the entire group - names are not required as all members taking the trip must be covered.
When Are They Covered?
The policy affords 24 hour a day worldwide protection commencing the moment the members of the group leave their homes or places of employment - and continuing for the duration of the trip no matter where the members go. In fact, a Tripster policy covers all usual travel activities - sightseeing, dining, visiting customers and places of business, attending shows and other entertainment. Scheduled Air Travel Coverage may be included or excluded at the option of the group to be insured.
Description of Coverages
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Coverage - Pays the maximum benefit selected for loss of life; or both hands; or both feet; or sight of both eyes; or hand and foot; or hand and sight of one eye; or foot and sight of one eye. Pays one-half the maximum benefit for loss of one hand; or one foot, or sight of one eye. Pays one-quarter the maximum benefit for loss of thumb and index finger of either hand.
To be covered, loss must occur within 180 days of the accident. If more than one loss results from any one accident, only one benefit, the largest, will be payable.
Accident Medical Treatment Coverage - Maximum Benefit of $1,000 - Pays for medical, surgical and hospital treatment (of covered injuries) incurred within five years of the date of the accident. To be covered, medical expenses must begin within 26 weeks from the date of the accident.
Exposure and Disappearance - The policy pays for medical care required as a result of exposure to the elements following the forced landing, stranding, sinking or wrecking of the conveyance in which the insured person was an occupant. The death benefit will be paid if the body of the insured person is not found within one year after such a mishap.
Extended Coverage after Policy Expiration - If the insured person is a passenger in a public conveyance late in arriving at its destination, and this delay causes the policy to expire before the trip is completed, the Company will automatically extend coverage until the insured person ceases to be a passenger, up to 24 additional hours.

General Exclusions and Limitations
This policy does not cover loss caused, or contributed to, by:
- intentionally self-inflicted injury, suicide or attempted suicide;
- war or any act of war, whether war is declared or not.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment and Accident Medical Treatment coverages do not cover loss caused, or contributed to, by:
- sickness or disease except pus-forming infection occurring through an accidental cut or wound;
- injury sustained injury sustained while a member of a team and practicing for or participating in any elementary school, junior high school or college level interscholastic sports event.
If air travel coverage is provided, members are covered while they are passengers in or on, boarding or alighting from an aircraft operated by a passenger airline on a scheduled flight, a chartered aircraft operated by such airline, or any Air Mobility Command (AMC) transport aircraft. Air travel on any other aircraft is excluded.
If air travel coverage is excluded, members are not covered while in or on, boarding or alighting from any aircraft.
Underwriting
Complete the request form contained in this site, taking into consideration the following:
The Tripster policy is available only to groups eligible under state laws. The policy is not designed for and will not be issued to cover Golden Age or Senior Citizen groups, athletic teams or groups engaging primarily in sports (including skiing), or unusual and hazardous activities. A general rule of thumb is that employee groups or groups of a religious, charitable, educational and recreational nature can be written. If there is any doubt about the eligibility of a group, refer to your reporting office for a decision.
The minimum premium for any policy written excluding or including air travel coverage is $250.
If, for any one plan selected, the total group premium is less than the minimum, the benefits should be increased until the minimum is reached.
The plans specified for this program may be used to provide coverage as long as the aggregate limit does not exceed $500,000 on any group of persons known to be traveling in the same aircraft ($1,000,000 on groups traveling exclusively by land and/or water transportation, provided notification of any such scheduled group trip with a concentration in excess of $500,000 is given to your reporting office no later than ten days prior to the scheduled departure date). Your reporting office must approve this trip before the risk can be bound. This notification must contain the following information:
- Total number of persons and amount of death benefit provided;
- Mode of travel (e.g., specify air, train, bus, etc.);
- Name of operator (e.g., specify United Airlines, Greyhound Bus, Pennsylvania Railroad, etc.);
- A complete schedule of the trip.
To determine the aggregate limit for the policy, multiply the number of persons traveling together on any one conveyance by the Accidental Death Benefit selected.
Higher aggregate limits will be considered upon application to your reporting office.
General Remarks
When completing the request be careful to note the time coverage is to begin, and whether or not air travel coverage is to be provided.
Extended Term Rider: If an organization is planning numerous trips throughout the year, this rider makes it convenient and economical to insure all of these trips under one policy. Coverage for air travel will not be available for policies issued on this basis. The rider, when attached to the policy, provides for quarterly audits of the trip exposure during the one year period of the policy. Audit reports must be submitted even if no trip exposure occurred during the quarter. One benefit plan must be selected to apply to all trips during the policy period. The rates charged for each trip will be the same as those specified excluding air travel coverage.
The following information is required, in addition to the normal application, to issue an Extended Term Tripster:
- The number of trips anticipated in the coming year;
- The itinerary of trips;
- The duration of trips;
- The anticipated number of people per trip;
- The mode of travel (i.e., train, bus, etc.).
After the inception date, the policy may not be canceled either by the Company or the policyholder.
The policy provides limited benefit health insurance only when benefits are included for sickness and injury; otherwise it provides ACCIDENT Insurance only. It does NOT provide basic hospital, basic medical, or major medical insurance as defined by the New York State Insurance Department.
IMPORTANT NOTICE - WHEN THE POLICY PROVIDES ACCIDENT COVERAGE ONLY,
IT DOES NOT PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR SICKNESS.
