Who is Covered?
All players are covered under the policy and must be included when determining the policy premium. Coverage is also available for the following individuals at the option of the policyholder:
- Managers and coaches
- bat boys, equipment managers, ball boys, scorekeepers, trainers, and volunteer workers on a team or league basis
- umpires and referees if all teams in a league are insured.
- members of the policyholder participating in team sponsored and supervised activities (other than a scheduled game or tournament game or practice session) and while traveling to and from such activities.
When Are They Covered?
The policy covers all insured persons against specified losses resulting from accidental bodily injury sustained while participating as a member of the team in a scheduled game, official tournament game or practice session; or, while traveling directly to or from such game or practice session. The loss must be the result, directly and independently of all other causes, of the accidental bodily injury.
Description of Coverages
Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Benefit
If the Insured Person's Injury results in any of the losses listed in
the table below within 180 days after the date of the accident, we will
pay the sum shown opposite the loss. We will not pay more than the Principal
Sum for each Insured Person for all losses due to the same accident.
The Principal Sum amount is shown in the Schedule.
| Loss: | Benefit: |
|---|---|
| Life | Principal Sum |
| Both Hands or Both Feet or Sight of Both Eyes | Principal Sum |
| One Hand and One Foot | Principal Sum |
| Either Hand and Sight of One Eye | Principal Sum |
| Either Foot and Sight of One Eye | Principal Sum |
| Speech and Hearing in Both Ears | Principal Sum |
| Either Hand or Foot | One-half the Principal Sum |
| Sight of One Eye | One-half the Principal Sum |
| Speech or Hearing in Both Ears | One-half the Principal Sum |
| Thumb and Index Finger on the Same Hand | One-quarter the Principal Sum |
Accident Medical Expense - pays the Reasonable Expenses incurred by an Insured Person, in excess of the Deductible Amount, for Medical Care due to Injury, if the first expense is incurred within 26 weeks after the accident and the expense is incurred within 2 years of the accident.
The benefit will not pay more than the Maximum Benefit for all expenses incurred as the result of any one accident. In addition, the benefit will not pay more than the Maximum Dental Limit of $250 for all expenses incurred for dental treatment, services and supplies; or more than the Maximum Benefit for all Medical Care and dental treatment, services and supplies, as the result of any one accident. The Deductible Amount will be applied separately to each accident.
Excess Coverage
In certain states, lower rates are available if the Medical Expense portion of The Hartford's Sports Accident Insurance is purchased on an "excess basis". This means that after the Insured Person has been reimbursed for medical expenses by other insurance plans, The Hartford will pay up to the maximum Medical Expense benefit for remaining treatment services and supplies. Other Plans include such health insurance coverage as group hospital or coverage through government programs. Any amounts paid by another insurance plan cannot be used to satisfy any deductible under The Hartford's policy.
